Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do. 1 Thessalonians 5 v 11

Here is a duty that we should endeavour to undertake and fulfil each day.

It is a mutual responsibility, we are to comfort one another, together.

The Thessalonians had received the Word in much affliction but with joy in the Holy Ghost.

They had been taught of God to love one another so that Paul had no need to write unto then concerning brotherly love.

But still Paul, desired of the Lord, that they should both increase and abound in love for one another and towards all men.

They had demonstrated their love for Paul and the brethren, and by their faith, had comforted Paul and the brethren in all their affliction and distress.

Paul on his part had exhorted, comforted, and charged them as a father does his children, being gentle among them as a nurse cherishes her children,

sending Timothy his brother in the Lord, a minister of God and fellow labourer in the Gospel to establish and comfort them.

So we have in this book both the exhortation and an example of it working out in practice, leaving us with no excuse.

We have to put into practice this exhortation.

TO  Comfort, exhort, charge, edify, increase in love for, and treat with gentleness, cherishing, establishing others, and promoting their joy and peace.

How can we do these things?

Let me suggest one way to. There are those with struggles within, with doubts and fears, with questions that they find hard to answer.

May I suggest that those who are strong help those that are weak by endeavouring to answer those doubts, fears, and questions which will tend to help, edify, exhort, encourage, and establish them in their faith.

Let us discuss passages of Scripture which are hard to understand or which present problems with the purpose of edifying and encouraging, BUT NOT for philosophical debate, parade of learning, or purely argumentative point winning.

Let us be here to help, prayerfully, that all may be established in the Faith and know the comfort, peace, and joy of believing.
