And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh. Ecclesiastes 12 v12

Whether it be Solomon speaking to Rehoboam
we can leave undecided.
The wise man has been speaking of a wise preacher who chose to teach the people knowledge, with acceptable Words, even upright Words of Truth.
He sets them in order, taking good heed, seeking out and setting down many wise sayings for the spiritual benefit of his hearers.
These Words were to be as goads, to stimulate, to spur on, to correct, to admonish the hearer or reader and so be profitable to the mind and soul.
We must give due heed to such Words.
We are encouraged to by Paul as well.
Speaking to young Timothy, Paul encourages him, not only to put the brethren in rememberance of these things, but to nourish himself by Words of Faith and Good Doctrine.
Paul exhorts “Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.”
So what are we to read today?
In contrast to the Good and Faithful Words outlined above, it is even more true today, to say ” of the making of books there is no end and much study is a weariness to the flesh”

We do not want to weary our bodies by what we read, but refresh our souls and enliven our spirits. What we read must lead us to Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man and really should be the whole conclusion of the matter.

Take heed how you hear and what you read, do not deaden your body, mind, and soul, but stimulate them by what you hear and what you read, so that you are enriched spiritually, to the end that you truely glorify God and His Son Jesus Christ.
