2 Chon. 7:14

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. – 2 Chronicles 7:14

 Another of my favourite verses,

It has 2 Descriptions of the Christian….

“My people”  “Called by His name”
WE belong to Him. WE are His representatives as we bare His Name and can have assurance because He has spoken to us when he called us personally to Himself.

 It has 4 Duties…….

“To humble ourselves in His presence”
that is to have real estimate of ourselves as Isaiah “Woe is me for I am undone, for I am a man of unclean lips and dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips…..”

 and pray”
Prayer is a work, a hard work, it needs Faith, Holiness, Persistence, and Submission to God’s Will. It is a life long work for the Christian, formally, informally, together and apart, in good times and bad times.

“and seek His face”
That is to desire His intimate presence, His listening ear, His face turned towards us in blessing. Moses talked with God at the burning bush, but hid his face as he would not look upon God. We seek His Face but hide our own, but as we commune with God our faces will shine as Moses did as he came down from the Mount and wist not that his face shone.

“turn from their wicked ways”
That includes us as individuals, are we aware of how sinful we are? Sin shall not have dominion over us BUT what progress have we made in turning from sin in recent days? Can we trace our progress at all or are we stagnant in this area?

It has 3 Promises…

“then will I hear from Heaven”
He will hear, He will respond, from where ?  Our eternal home, HEAVEN, where He is and where none resists His Will, where we will be changed out of this sinful body of our humiliation and sin no more.

“and will forgive their sin”
Our sins and iniquities will He remember no more, as far as the east is from the west so far has He removed our transgressions from us. Amen. What a promise ..forgiveness of my SINS

“and heal their land”
Originally the land of His people, the perpetuation of Solomon’s Kingdom, the removal of judgement and restoration, redress from grievances and a pardoning national mercy. But for us, now, what does this mean? The context is the Temple, the place of worship, so for us we have the Church in view, the worship of God by the people of God.

Do we not need spiritual healing in the Church?
Do we not need restoration and revival?
Do we not need a visitation from God Himself?
Do we not need the Covenant keeping God to show Pardoning Mercy to the people of God and a turning of His face towards us?

DO WE:
THEN recognise who you are, who you belong to, who has called you to be separate and holy, fulfil the duties He has placed before YOU, HUMBLE yourself, PRAY, SEEK HIS FACE, and TURN FROM YOUR WICKED WAYS.

  1. Thank you Jeff. I find Psalm 23 a real comfort and truth. Even going through difficult times we can rely on Christ to comfort us both through his presence or His people praying with us to strengthen us and then to be His workers to help others. I am convinced all things work together for good fir those who love God.Amen.

    • Yes, we need comfort and reassurance during our passage through life to eternity. God graciously provides for us in each circumstancce of life and gives us many challenges to make sure we do not rest on our laurals. God bless you and understake for you in your present circumstances.
