CERTAIN AND UNCERTAIN RICHES

THOUGHT FOR TODAY

There are many rich people in this world and riches are not to be derided. God has given us the ability to gain riches in honest ways and never deplores riches themselves.

It is our attitude to riches that matters.

When a man or woman desires to be rich there is the danger of falling into temptations and snares, into many foolish and hurtful lusts which can end up drowning us in destruction and perdition.

It’s not money, it’s the LOVE of money, that is the root of all evil, leading some to err and pierce themselves through with many sorrows.

The Godly will flee this covetousness and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and meekness, fighting the good fight of faith, laying hold of eternal life and witnessing a good profession before many witnesses.

It is necessary to remind those that are rich not to be high-minded or to trust in these uncertain riches but to TRUST in the living God.

God gives us all things richly to enjoy, and while, often, we do not have worldly wealth there are many things God has given us and we should consciously enjoy them. I should add, that not to enjoy life and liberty and all the good things that God gives us, is to spurn His love and goodness towards us.

But we can be rich and should be, RICH in good works, in doing good, in distributing to those in need, willing to communicate, laying up for ourselves a good foundation against the time to come, so that we may lay hold onto eternal life.

So then God gives us all things richly to enjoy, ………
the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering, the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, the riches of all the blessing of God in Christ Jesus, the riches of his grace; so that we can cry out “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God” in giving us ALL THINGS richly to ENJOY.

And if God should be pleased to give us some worldly wealth we should be Rich enough in Grace to use it wisely, in a God Glorifying way that acknowledges the great goodness of the giver of all things.
